This hotel's location was popular with many guests, who liked the way it was just opposite the causeway leading to Cedar Point. It put them within three miles of the rollercoaster-packed amusement parks. Motorists appreciated being just off US Route 6 for easy access to Lake Erie, downtown Sandusky, ferry terminals and the Amtrak station. Another plus was the proximity of several roadside eateries and gas stations.

With its often competitive room rates, this property appealed to budget-conscious travelers, many of whom said they got decent bang for their buck. The rooms reportedly weren't fancy but did manage to be sufficiently clean and comfortable for a shorter stay. However, some guests felt the rooms and bathrooms were small. The free breakfast was a plus as was the complimentary parking.

Plenty of reviewers had praise for the customer service, often describing staff as kind, attentive and friendly. Nevertheless, there were occasional reports of mix-ups with bookings on arrival.

Despite many reviewers finding the rooms to be adequately clean and comfortable, there was some criticism of the cleanliness. It was occasionally claimed some bathrooms and bedroom floors were dirty or that there was stained bedding.

Although many guests said the property was relatively peaceful, there were some light sleepers who disagreed. It was sometimes claimed that noise from adjacent rooms and corridors was audible. Moldy smells and smoky smells were also reported.

A few critics said the property would benefit from further modernization and a fresh lick of paint as it had a dated feel. There were also occasional claims of some facilities in a poor state of repair such as broken fridges and aging fixtures and fittings.
