Positive Reviews
positive:
Intimate and fun environment
The hostel is a fairly small one with just five rooms. This and the hostel's general layout including the communal spaces such as the kitchen and common room make for an easy informal atmosphere for interacting with staff and fellow guests.
positive:
A convenient central location
Being in the lively and trendy Hillcrest area of downtown San Diego, the hostel is well located for those interested in culture and nightlife as well as being LGBT friendly and being host to plenty of restaurants and shopping options.
positive:
Quite the bargain
Room prices are quite low given the location of the hostel and a number of convenient factors such as free Wi-Fi, the option of airport and train station transfers (at an extra cost) and the laundry services.
Negative Reviews
negative:
No private parking on the property
Hostel Habibi does not provide on-site private parking so most guests with their own vehicles park at secured compounds nearby or on the street parking spots if available. These options both come at an extra cost to the guest.
negative:
Issues with cleanliness and general maintenance
There have been a number of complaints and concerns from previous guests regarding problems such as infrequent cleaning in the bathrooms and bedrooms, leaks in some areas, less-than-clean bed linens and some insects. There is also little privacy in the shared bathrooms (shower curtains rather than doors) and the larger dorms, which can be tough for some.
negative:
No free breakfast on offer
There is no breakfast, tea/coffee or in-house bar or restaurant available for guests of Hostel Habibi unlike some other hostels, which may be a bit of an inconvenience to some. You are however free to use and store food in the well-appointed kitchen at all times as well as a number of restaurants and coffee shops in the immediate vicinity.
