Positive Reviews
positive:
Clean and cosy rooms.
Hotel Groeninghe offers rooms which are clean and cosy and decorated in warm colour tones. The space is used well so that rooms feel larger than what they actually are. Bathrooms are en suite and are also clean and well-maintained with good water pressure in the shower.
positive:
Lovely warm welcome.
The hotel is family-owned and run with a father and daughter team always available to tend to guests needs. The family are very friendly and offer a warm welcome, treating all guests like family. Both are well-spoken and offer great advice for sightseeing around town.
positive:
Great breakfast.
Breakfast service is excellent and a varied and plentiful continental-style breakfast is made available each morning in the cosy and very clean breakfast room. Many of the items on offer, such as the jams and compotes are home-made, which is a very nice touch.
Negative Reviews
negative:
Thin walls, can be noisy.
As with many old buildings the walls are quite thin, making it very easy to hear activities in other rooms as well as other guests walking up or down the stairs. The area is quite lively and there are a number of bars and a hostel that can be quite noisy until the early hours.
negative:
Can seem dated.
Hotel Groeninghe follows along traditional lines when it comes to much of the décor used throughout the hotel and in the rooms. Some may find this décor to be dated in appearance, with plenty of dark colours as opposed to brighter colours used in more modern hotels.
negative:
No lift on property.
The hotel occupies three floors and there is no lift on the property. Access to above ground floors is by steep stairs which could be a problem for elderly travellers or those with mobility issues.
