While some areas of this hotel have suffered over time, guests rate the rooms, reporting that they're spacious, and that the beds are comfortable. The balconies where you can enjoy the sea view are a bonus too.

The saving grace of The Grand Royal Antiguan Beach Resort might just be its glorious Caribbean beach. It's a paradisaical setting, with almost a kilometre of white sand, and warm, shallow water for snorkelling and bathing.

Since many people end up at this hotel due to flight delays or cancellations, it's fortunate that it's close to the airport, which is located a 20-minute drive away. Taxi fares to and from the airport are generally good value.

Apart from the guests who've ended up here after flight difficulties, the hotel seems to be deserted. Many of the public areas are in need of refurbishment, and guests say the place has a bit of an eerie feel.

Due to the lack of guests, many of the hotel's facilities are out of operation. The tennis courts are overgrown and untended, while two of the restaurants seem to be closed most of the time.

Apart from the beach, there's not a whole lot to do at the Grand Royal Antiguan Beach Resort. Expensive taxi journeys are required to get to St. John's, which is the nearest place for eating out, shopping, or sightseeing.
