Hotel El Greco (Nassau, Bahamas)

If you don't have inflated expectations and are seeking authenticity - to get to know the locals and their culture – you may be pleasantly surprised with El Greco. Guests love the value that they get here – the large and spacious rooms cost substantially less than elsewhere.

Although El Greco is a budget hotel, one thing you don't have to sacrifice is the location. The hotel is right opposite Junkaloo Beach for a start. Guests will tell you it is not the most beautiful beach in the Bahamas, but it is fine. If you want better beaches, you just need to pop over on the ferry to Paradise Island. The hotel is ideally situated for exploring Nassau too with the market, restaurants and Fish Fry all within walking distance.

If you are prepared to adapt to the more relaxed local culture guests will tell you that you will probably appreciate the friendliness and sincerity of the staff. They are very helpful and will make you feel right at home.

Many guests are appalled by the state of the dark rooms. The carpets and rugs are filthy and there is a distinct moldy or musty smell. The thing that many can't get over though is that they are made to pay a hidden surcharge specifically for cleaning the room!

You may find that you may not have hot water for parts of your stay – or even the full duration. Guests will warn you in advance not to expect any apologies, let alone compensation!

Guests find the hotel to be old and tired and in drastic need of an upgrade. It doesn't seem to have changed much for many a year.
