Hotel Contessina (Planos-Tsilivi, Greece)

While not right on the coast, guests were very pleased to find that this hotel put them just a few steps away from the local beach, which has earned a Blue Flag accreditation. In addition to this, there are a number of shops, restaurants and bars in the surrounding area, making it easy for guests to grab a few essentials, souvenirs or even a few beers very close to their accommodation.

The staff here - especially those at this property's reception and bar - are outstandingly friendly. Speaking of warm welcomes, the free drink upon arrival is a very thoughtful touch, something much appreciated by guests arriving on the island in the high heat of summer. While staff may not be able to resolve every problem, they make a sincere effort to do so. This pro-active, friendly attitude has won them many fans over the years and this hotel sees a lot of repeat guests.

The rooms here might not be huge, but they are kept to an incredibly high standard, with guests much impressed by their tidy appearance. Many were very pleased to note that the air conditioning is good and strong, giving immediate relief from the island heat. Finally, both the quality and range of breakfast offerings here were good.

To the frustration of many guests, the Wi-Fi coverage was very patchy. Some reported adequate service in reception, but quite a few noted that in-room coverage was non-existent.

Many found the rooms here - and the bathrooms in particular - to be incredibly tight.

Finally, a number of guests would have liked to have seen tea and coffee making facilities in their rooms.
