Castagni d'Oro is a beautiful old Tuscan stone house, built 350 years ago in 1670 and sitting high up in the pretty little hilltop village of Brandeglio, surrounded by mountains and forests. Out in the country, but only 15 minutes from the spa town of Bagni di Lucca with bars, restaurants and shops. The house is virtually original with beams and cotto floors throughout and has private parking for 3 cars, a large garage for motorbikes and a cellar for cycles or ski equipment. The two spacious guestrooms are havens of peace and quiet and have views of mountains and valleys or the village houses. Each room has a firm, comfortable bed, coffee and tea facilities with biscuits, free Wi-Fi and a seating area with table to simply sit and relax. The modern en-suite bathrooms have a hairdryer and free toiletries. Guests can also use the lounge where British and Italian TV is available. Breakfast is large and continental with meats and cheeses, yoghurts and cereals, breads and pastries, juices and hot drinks, served in the sunny dining room or or even out in the sunshine. Outside, the terrace has a table, chairs and umbrella and is a great place for a cooling drink and even an al-fresco evening meal provided at extra charge. The lawned garden has great views and is ideal for sunbathing or just relaxing in tree shade. As this region is very mountainous, we recommend using a car to explore the area and to fully appreciate the river valleys, mountain villages, the golden beaches at Viareggio and culture in Florence and Pisa, instead of spending half your holiday in trains, buses and taxis.
