The hotel is just three miles from downtown Long Beach, and many of the city's main attractions are within a few minutes' drive. Popular nearby attractions include the Latin American Museum of Art, the Long Beach Convention Center, Long Beach Museum of Art and the Aquarium of the Pacific. The hotel is also less than 30 minutes from Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm and Downtown Los Angeles.

Guests generally felt that the hotel was nicely decorated. Guestrooms featured hardwood flooring as opposed to carpet, and the rooms had an overall comfortable, modern look, suggesting that they had been recently renovated.

Guestrooms feature a microwave and refrigerator, which guests seemed to enjoy. Several reviewers mentioned that they liked the convenience of being able to store and reheat food during their stay.

The Days Inn Long Beach City Center is evidently not in the best part of town, and several guests mentioned that they did not feel particularly secure during their stay. There are also relatively few options for shopping or dining within walking distance, making a car more of a necessity at this location.

Several visitors to the hotel complained that their rooms were too noisy. Some could hear sounds quite clearly from neighboring rooms as well as the highway just outside, and that the air conditioner was unpleasantly loud.

Guests reported a range of problems with the housekeeping and general upkeep of the rooms. Issues including dirty floors, stains and worn-out beds and bedding were common complaints, and several guests also mentioned finding unpleasant smells in their rooms.
