Hotel Baymont by Wyndham Bowling Green (Bowling Green, USA)

The building itself is obviously quite old but it has been refurbished to incorporate the needs of today's hotel guest. This has been done sensitively and with high degrees of success.

Rooms are clean, well maintained and cheerfully decorated. The WiFi works well, which is a true bonus in any hotel room.

The first impression anywhere is that given by the members of staff on the front desk. Here, they couldn't be better. Very helpful and friendly.

The air conditioning is very loud … and on arrival there's a worryingly strange smell in the lobby. The well known smell of smoke is present in the corridors, even though, the rooms in this area are supposedly designated non-smoking. There is a persistent, curry type, smell in the rooms. There's a drainage problem too; the sink is very slow to drain away.

If you are planning on having breakfast, get there early. It seems that everyone else does and eventually, supplies just run out. Late arrivals are left with no choice and frugal remains. The kitchen area itself needs an urgent top to bottom clean through.

Cups at breakfast wobble and don't stand up. The coffee cup covers don't fit; they are larger than the cup. Dried milk packets are old/out of date. Coffee pot not cleaned. When you report any problem to the front desk, they happily take it on board but nothing seems to happen. It's worth noting the lack of an elevator and elderly/infirm guests should specify lower floor accommodation.
