Hotel Amsterdam Canal Residence (Amsterdam, Netherlands)

For its location alone, guests heaped this property with piles of praise. While it is set back from the hustle and bustle of Dam Square, guests were pleased to find that many of Amsterdam’s major points of interest were within walking distance of the hotel. Those who wanted to go further afield could take their pick from any number of buses or trams as well as the city’s Centraal station, which is situated just a few minutes away on foot.

The staff at this property are nothing but superb. Quick and eager to greet guests, they are incredibly accommodating and thoughtful. It is not unknown for guests of this property to receive impromptu tours, assistance with luggage or bespoke room service. It was these little touches that really served to impress.

The breakfasts here – served in a canal-level room complete with French doors – are impressive. Featuring everything from pancakes, eggs and bacon as well as cheese and ham, the variety was superb and there seemed to be something to satisfy everyone.Finally, guests really loved the chic interiors here. Marble bathrooms and comfortable beds only added to the lux feel.

The bathrooms here are entirely glass, something that caught many off guard in terms of privacy.

Like the bathrooms, the floor-to-ceiling windows left much to be desired in terms of privacy, with many finding that those in adjacent buildings could look directly into their rooms.

Those staying on the street side of this property said that noise was a problem. Ditto a similar issue for those on the ground floor, who said that they were bothered by a constant din from the reception area.
