With easy off and on access to Interstate 85 and a short drive from the University of North Carolina campus and various entertainment venues, the location of this hotel met the needs of most guests. They also appreciated the nearby shops, restaurants and fast food outlets.

The front desk staff earned praise from most guests for their friendliness, efficiency and knowledge of the local area. Guests described the staff as quick to resolve problems and eager to be of assistance.

A number of guests described this hotel as long overdue for an update. They reported old, worn and faded furnishings and carpets and described the decor as dated and tired looking. Lack of maintenance was also an issue with reports of broken door locks, mold on bathroom fixtures and in the grouting around plumbing and noisy and inefficient air-conditioning units. Problems were significant enough that some guests said they would not stay again.

Drug deals in the parking lot, shady looking characters around the lobby entrance and the presence of police cars caused some guests to fear for their safety. Others thought the neighborhood around the hotel looked dangerous and said they would not venture out alone at night.

The all night rumbling of trains on a nearby track kept some guests from enjoying a good night's sleep, others were kept awake by traffic noises, sounds from neighboring rooms and, in a few cases, fights and commotion in the parking lot.
