The Holiday Inn Express Simi Valley completed a major interior refurbishment in 2015, and the new look is receiving many positive reviews. Guests generally describe the rooms as very clean, modern, and spacious, with comfortable beds and modern touches, such as USB ports in the outlets by the bed. Families love having two full bathrooms in the one-bedroom suites.

Many guests praise the front desk staff for their friendly, helpful, and efficient manner, noting that they seem pleased to accommodate special requests and share their knowledge of the area. The housekeeping and maintenance staff have also earned kudos for prompt, courteous service.

Many guests book the hotel for its location, just 6 miles from the Reagan Presidential Library and Museum and about 45 minutes' from Six Flags Magic Mountain. It is also just a few minutes drive from the Simi Valley Town Center and many restaurants.

Though the interior is newly refurbished, the hotel is older and the guest rooms feature exterior doors, some of which open directly onto the parking lot area. Some guests in these rooms had privacy, security, or noise concerns, and have described the area as a bit "seedy" or "shady".

Though the hotel has a smoke-free policy, several guests have reported cigarette odor or else an "old", "musty" smell in their rooms or the hallways.
