However, the highlight for most is the view from their private balcony. Rooms at the back directly face the harbor, and guests love to watch the sun setting over the water.

Many guests appreciate the hotel's location on the water, noting it is about a 20-25 minute walk around the harbor to the shops, restaurants, bars, and the Island Packers (which offers excursions to the popular Channel Islands). Santa Barbara is about 30 minutes away, and Carpinteria is just up the freeway. It's a short drive to the beach or downtown Ventura Harbor, too.

Guests often describe the hotel's entire staff as "nice", "friendly", and "helpful", and often gratefully recognize the front desk staff for providing clear directions, suggesting restaurants, or allowing early check-ins. The housekeeping team also receives high marks.

The hotel does not offer a gym or pool, though some guests report being allowed to use these amenities at the hotel's nearby sister property, the Four Points Sheraton. Many fit travelers do, however, enjoy running along the harbor.

The hotel is a few decades old and features exterior walkways, a privacy or security concern for some. Also, though many guests describe the rooms as comfortable, few deny that the decor and furnishings are dated.

Though the hotel offers ample parking, some guests are irritated by the nightly charge. Others feel the hotel is a little overpriced in the summer for its general condition and limited amenities.
