Great location
This hotel places you within easy reach of Pittsburgh attractions, with many within walking distance of the property. There is also a reasonable choice of dining options in the immediate area, with more restaurants easily accessible via the 10th Street Bridge or by taking the shuttle.

Competitive rates and good freebies
Guests find the rates at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Pittsburgh South Side are fairly competitive for the area. The freebies on offer probably strengthen that view. Guests are appreciative of the free breakfast, Wi-Fi, and shuttle. Free parking is also available (although this does appear to be limited).

Occasionally seems understaffed
Reviews indicate that this hotel often appears understaffed, with some guests of the opinion that it is grossly so. Queues with more than 30 people waiting to check-in have been experienced, with just one member of staff dealing with that, as well as incoming calls.

Some noise issues
Although guests like the view of the Monongahela River, they are not so keen on the train track that runs alongside it. As you might expect, the passing trains can subject at least some of the rooms in the hotel to unwanted noise.

Trash left around hotel
Perhaps as a result of the already noted understaffing issue, guests report seeing trash bags around the hotel, particularly around the elevator area. Also, guests see trash and empty bottles littering the parking lot. Presumably, the limited number of staff is struggling to keep on top of this problem.
