You certainly don't expect something like this in the depths of East Yorkshire, which can be a bit remote. Rooms are brilliantly appointed and a great deal of time and effort must have gone in to creating choices ranging from ultra modern to Tudor!
If you are staying here, breakfast is good quality and a great start to the day. Later dining choices look equally appealing with attractive pre and post-meal drinking areas.
The Craft Shop and Art Gallery are crammed with interesting ideas … and potential investments! There is much local work displayed so … no shortage of memories to take home. It has to be said that the mainstay of any hospitality business is its efficiency, friendliness and customer service. Almost everything is alive and kicking here.
The entire concept is brilliant and must have cost a fortune. It's a pity then that they fall down somewhat on the food content. Breakfast is OK but lacking in the choice that you might expect. When dining later, the veg is great - just as it should be - but any meat seems to be processed and not nearly as appetising.
As a stranger - paying the full whack! - you don't expect to be ignored by staff in favour of ‘locals' who they obviously know. This can and should be rectified immediately. Not acceptable.
They've renovated the place with great verve and imagination. They now need to turn that same degree of attention to the quality of the food that is sometimes served and the rather off-hand manner with which some staff members treat guests. Then - they've really cracked it here!
