Positive Reviews
positive:
Helpful staff offer a personal service.
While it may not have all the facilities of a large, chain hotel, The Castle does offer a very homely experience. Staff act quickly to respond to guests' needs, and many visitors said they were upgraded when the hotel wasn't full.
positive:
Satisfying cooked breakfast.
If you love a good full English, then you'll be very contented at The Castle. Breakfast is included in the room rate, and guests seem very satisfied with the range of food and a decent, cooked breakfast to start the day on the right note.
positive:
Close to Ely and transport routes.
The hotel is located in a quiet neighbourhood, just a 5-minute walk from Ely. It also has convenient access to the motorway, and can be a good base for visiting Cambridge, which is 20 minutes away by train from Ely.
Negative Reviews
negative:
Room size and facilities vary widely.
If you manage to nab a large, ensuite room for a bargain price, then you'll think this hotel is great value for money. However, if you end up with one of the cramped attic rooms with shared bathroom facilities, you won't be nearly as happy.
negative:
The decor could do with a revamp.
Generally, guests report that The Castle feels rather old-fashioned and tired. This isn't helped by some rooms having broken items which could be easily fixed or replaced. A spruce-up and some TLC would make all the difference.
negative:
No frills and few communal spaces.
If all you're looking for is a simple B&B for an overnight stay and a good breakfast, this is ideal. However, if you want anything else, like somewhere to sit and relax with a coffee, you'll be disappointed, as this really is a no-frills option.
