positive:
Wonderful public baths
Like many Japanese hotels, this one has two public baths available, one for men and one for women. This was many guests favorite feature of the hotel. Foreign tourists could get a little insight into traditional Japanese culture and practices without traveling to a country inn. Guests also mentioned that the bath area contains a sauna which they really enjoyed.
positive:
Truly exceptional location
Guests really appreciated the location of the hotel. In fact, it seems it was one of the main reasons for booking there. They found the central location, just minutes from Kyoto’s main JR station, very convenient; since they could explore the immediate area and also have public transport nearby when ready to explore further afield.
positive:
Great English language skills
Both English speaking guests and those for whom English is a second language felt that the hotel’s customer facing staff had an excellent grasp of the language. They reckoned that they were both understood by the staff and that they understood what the staff were communicating.
Negative Reviews
negative:
Rooms are very small
Although it came as no surprise to any guests, given that they were in the heart of Japan’s second biggest city, they nevertheless highlighted that the rooms were indeed very small. Those suffering from claustrophobia may experience some difficulties.
negative:
Disappointing breakfast
Most guests were disappointed with the Western part of the daily breakfast buffet, saying there was not enough variety on offer, and that what was served was not of the highest quality.
negative:
Area quiet at night
Despite being in a very central spot, quite a number of guests mentioned that the area was pretty quiet at night, with no real nightlife to speak of. Those looking for great bars and cubs may have a distance to travel.
