Positive Reviews
positive:
Central enough to walk everywhere
The hotel boasts a stellar location within walking distance from the boardwalk, the beach, shopping, dining and even concert venues. Previous guests list this as their favourite feature and return several times for it.
positive:
Friendly staff
The friendly and professional staff at the Empress are appreciated by many for their kindness and willingness to go the extra mile for guests, for example giving recommendations for activities in the area.
positive:
Modern, comfortable rooms
Despite being quite an old hotel, the Empress has been renovated and the rooms as well as the public areas are trendy and well decorated, for example with under-counter lighting at the indoor bar which guests feel adds to the vibrant atmosphere.
Negative Reviews
negative:
No in-house dining
Although there are plenty of great restaurants in the area, some guests would prefer the option of eating in sometimes or even preparing or heating up their own food. Unfortunately The Empress Hotel does not cater for this as there is no restaurant, kitchen or fridges/microwaves in rooms. There is however a breakfast buffet and tea and coffee are complimentary in every room.
negative:
Noise from the pool parties
The hotel hosts parties over the weekends by the swimming pool/tiki bar and there are a number of clubs and music venues nearby, so noise ingress in rooms, particularly those facing the pool, is certainly a possibility. This is however much different in the ocean-facing rooms which face away from the music.
negative:
Limited parking spaces
You may in the busy seasons struggle to find a parking space and instead be forced to use metered street parking as there is not much available for hotel guests in the lot.
