El Conquistador Hotel (Buenos Aires City, Argentina)

Guests loved this hotel’s location at the northern end of downtown Buenos Aires, known to locals as the microcentro. Not only did it put reviewers just one block from the iconic Avenida 9 de Julio but it was also a great place to be as it was close to dining and shopping options, pedestrian shopping streets, arts venues, museums, parks and nightlife venues. Drivers welcomed the on-site parking. Those without vehicles liked the way they could walk to the nearest bus stops and metro stations as well as Retiro’s bus and mainline train stations.

According to many travellers, the rooms at this four-star hotel were smartly decorated and well-cleaned. Features like the flat-screen TVs and minibars also won praise. Guests staying on the upper floors were impressed with the excellent city and river views.

Most reviewers experienced good customer service from friendly, professional and accommodating personnel, many of whom spoke English. Diners were upbeat about the food, service and atmosphere in the rooftop restaurant. The free breakfast buffet reportedly offered a wide variety of choice.

Maintenance issues like worn carpets, tired-looking bedding, ineffective air-conditioning and dated appliances disappointed critics in some rooms. Others sometimes struggled to regulate the room temperature. Some guests commented that certain en suite bathrooms and standard bedrooms were pretty small. The gym reportedly offered limited equipment, some of which was outdated.

Although the availability of free Wi-Fi was appreciated by guests, some were critical of the underwhelming network speeds in several corners of the building.

Although many visitors enjoyed a peaceful stay, light sleepers sometimes blamed thin walls for enabling them to hear nuisance noise from neighbouring rooms.
