The hotel is located right near the center of Downtown Richmond, less than a half-mile from the state capitol building. Numerous other museums and historical sites including the Museum of the Confederacy and Hollywood Cemetery are also close at hand, as is Virginia Commonwealth University.

Guests generally found the hotel staff very pleasant and helpful. Most visitors in need of assistance reported that the front desk staff were prompt and friendly in addressing their concerns, and the service in the restaurant and lounge was equally friendly and professional.

Numerous visitors to the hotel seemed to be impressed with the hotel's indoor pool and hot tub. An indoor pool and hot tub area is especially useful during the colder months, as the facilities can be in use year-round.

Several guests remarked that the hotel seemed to have fairly thin walls, and sound traveled easily from one room to the next. Outside noise, as well as sounds from other guests' rooms might be an issue if you are a particularly light sleeper or are easily agitated.

Although the hotel is very close to the center of Downtown, there are few restaurants or attractions within walking distance of the hotel. While shuttle service can be arranged if you are traveling without a car, some guests felt that being within walking distance of restaurants and shopping would have made their stay much more enjoyable.

Onsite parking is available in the hotel's private garage, but there is a daily fee for both valet as well as self-parking, which some guests resented.
