Candlewood Suites Harrisburg-Hershey, an IHG Hotel (Harrisburg, USA)

Easy to find; it's off 1-83 and next to Bass Pro Shops. You are close to all the facilities, shops, and restaurants that you could reasonably want. Noise isn't great but if you are particularly susceptible, opt for a top floor suite where things tend to be quieter.

Don't be dismayed by the fact that they don't serve breakfast here … how often have hotel breakfasts proved to be hugely disappointing? Solutions here include the well stocked on-site store and your own well equipped kitchen in which to prepare just what you want. Can't be bothered? Well, there are lots of family orientated restaurants in the immediate area … and Gordon's does a particularly yummy breakfast!

Rooms are clean and well equipped. OK, there may be some occasional glitches but members of staff here are incredibly friendly and helpful, so things will soon be sorted. Some suites have fantastic views.

It completely lacks any niceties. Everything is very basic and frill-less. The free coffee in the lobby is the nearest you'll get to a ‘frill'. Fine if you just want a good night's sleep but lacking if you want anything else.

At first glance, everything seems fine but later inspection of the bed linen casts doubt. Linen is quite dirty and very suspect. Also, cleaning staff members hassle you to get you to vacate the room at a very early hour.

There is an assumption that breakfast is included. It isn't! This isn't a huge disadvantage, though, given that there is a good on-site store and plenty of breakfast eateries nearby.
